Lathe suitability

The swing diameter (swing) of your lathe can be found by measuring the swing radius – as indicated in the picture above – and doubling it.  So it is double the distance between the spindle centre and the lathe bed. Its the diameter of the largest thing you can turn.

Please note: All lathes may not be included in the data below.

Most importantly the lathe should have a gap between the ways of your lathe bed and the swing diameter should be 300mm or above. Some customers have had lathes which have been mounted on worktops and have been able to use our steady rests with slight modifications to the fixing mechanism.
